Release & Access
Quick answer
The Aniimo playtest — the Steam Playtest build used for the Global Closed Beta — is over. The test ran in July 2026, ended with a full data wipe, and as of September 10, 2026 there is no active Aniimo playtest to join.
That is not bad news: the full game launches free on September 16, 2026 for PC and consoles (September 23 on mobile), and launch requires no playtest access of any kind. Below is how the playtest worked, what happened to its data, and whether another one is coming.
Is there an Aniimo playtest right now?
No. Aniimo's most recent playtest was the Global Closed Beta, delivered through Steam Playtest on PC. Recruitment opened on June 6, 2026, the test ran in July 2026, and access ended when the test concluded with a full data wipe.
The Steam Playtest build no longer grants access, and no invite emails are being sent. Any video or post promising a live Aniimo playtest today either predates the test's conclusion or is clickbait.
Context: this playtest was the last of three tests in Aniimo's pre-launch plan, after earlier closed betas in late 2025 and early 2026. The developer letter of September 3, 2026 explicitly counts "the three tests" as finished chapters — the playtest era of Aniimo is over, and the launch era starts on September 16.
How the Aniimo Steam Playtest worked
Aniimo's playtest was not a click-to-join demo — it was a limited closed beta with its own recruitment flow. The July 2026 round worked like this:
- Sign up through the official questionnaire announced on June 6, 2026 at 12pm PDT — one submission per player.
- Pawprint Studio selected testers based on the needs of the test rather than first-come-first-served.
- Selected players received download instructions by email at the address used in the questionnaire.
- The official website offered an eligibility check, and invites went out in waves rather than all at once.
The wave-based invites were a recurring pattern across all three Aniimo tests: community coverage noted that a delayed or errored invite did not necessarily mean rejection. That nuance only matters for history now, since the final wave has long since gone out.
Two platform rules mattered for anyone who got in. Access received through a Steam CD key worked only on Steam — there was no cross-platform data sharing — and accounts could not be lent, gifted, rented or sold under any circumstances.
Playtest build vs. the launch version
The playtest was explicitly a development build: Pawprint Studio stated that its content did not represent the final quality of the game. Between the July test and launch, the team published a developer letter (September 3, 2026) describing how feedback from Aniimo's three tests shaped the release version.
Concretely, systems discussed from the beta — such as the gacha-style legendary hunt and equipment runes — are reported to have been reworked or removed for launch (community-reported; to be confirmed). The safe takeaway: judge Aniimo on the September 16 build, not on playtest footage.
Content-wise, the playtest already carried the pillars of the full game: catching Aniimo with Aniipods, Twining to use their abilities, the 3-player PvEvP mode Egg Heist, Homeland building, and competitive modes such as Holo-Battle. Those systems exist in the launch version too — what changed between beta and release is balance and scope, not the fundamental loop.
What happened to playtest accounts and data
The Global Closed Beta was a data-wipe test, and its rules made that consequence explicit:
- All test account data was deleted when the test concluded.
- Access was tied to the questionnaire email — the same address had to be used to log in.
- No cross-platform data sharing: the Steam Playtest build did not sync with other platforms.
- Lending, gifting, renting or selling access was strictly prohibited.
In short: nothing from the playtest carries into launch. Beta veterans and complete newcomers start the live game from exactly the same line on September 16.
Will there be another Aniimo playtest?
No further playtest has been announced. With the September 16, 2026 launch open to everyone, a new screening round would have little left to test, and Pawprint Studio's pre-launch communications make no mention of one (to be confirmed).
If that ever changes, the announcement will come through the same channels as before: Steam news, the official Discord and @Aniimo_EN. This page will be updated as soon as anything official appears.
In the meantime, everything a playtest would prepare you for is available without one: the system requirements are published on the Steam page, and pre-registration banks launch rewards for your account. Check those two things and you are fully ready for September 16.
Frequently asked questions
5 Q&AsCan I still join the Aniimo playtest on Steam?
No. The Steam Playtest build belonged to the Global Closed Beta, which ended in July 2026 with a full data wipe. Access is closed and no invites are being sent.
Do I need playtest access to play at launch?
No. Aniimo launches free for everyone on September 16, 2026 (PC and consoles) and September 23, 2026 (mobile). Just download the client and play.
Was the playtest available on consoles or mobile?
No. The Global Closed Beta ran on PC via Steam Playtest only, with no cross-platform data sharing. Console and mobile players got the game at launch instead.
Did playtest progress transfer to the live game?
No. It was a data-wipe test: all test account data was deleted at the end, so everyone starts from zero on launch day.
Will Aniimo get another playtest or demo?
Nothing has been announced (to be confirmed). Watch Steam news, the official Discord and @Aniimo_EN — those channels carried every previous test announcement.
